The blockchain-empowered fitness application, STEPN, by Find Satoshi Lab, is broadening its range with a revolutionary Web3 video game, ‘Gas Hero.’ This societal game motivates users to gather non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The foundation of this game relies on “Battle and Earn,” strategic, and decentralized components such as community voting. Interestingly, the gaming universe is set amid a post-apocalyptic world, a creation of artificial intelligence (AI).
The anticipation is palpable as Gas Hero is scheduled to launch later this year. In the meantime, there is a user-generated content (UGC) contest on the horizon, ready to create 960 Genesis NFT designs. This contest captivates the attention of enthusiastic users with a staggering prize pool of over 2 million GMT. Each of the winners is expected to pocket an impressive 2,084 GMT.
As STEPN’s GMT tokens are currently valued at $0.215, this puts the estimated value of the prize pool at approximately $431,394. This UGC contest unfolds over three phases spread across three months. In this duration, users will be able to create designs for a whopping 16 avatars or Super Heroes.
Each phase will foster 20 winners for each codename, summing up to a total of 320 winners for each phase. Once Genesis Heroes NFTs are authenticated with selected artworks, 2% of the creator royalties from these NFTs will land in the creators’ accounts.
This intriguing contest sifts winners based on the originality of the design, quality, and narrative. Each creator can submit designs for various heroes, leveraging their creativity to the maximum. Phase 1 is currently live with 16 codenames at participants’ disposal.
Earlier this year, STEPN was acknowledged as the first blockchain gaming application to be integrated with Apple Pay. This significant step facilitated users with an option to use Apple Pay for purchasing STEPN products and upgradations within the application. This decision successfully eliminated the requisite of a crypto wallet to bolster transactions.
While the NFT-fuelled game world is an evolving landscape, there might be some challenges ahead. While the likes of major gaming companies like Sega admit that crypto games often fall short on the fun factor, other big names like Square Enix are determined to persevere with the Web3 and blockchain gaming drive. The gaming sphere is on the brink of a technological revolution, and it is transitioning interestingly. In the end, it’s all about balance; while the potential profitability of blockchain-driven gaming is lucrative, whether this shift can maintain the entertainment quotient is a waiting game.
