Cryptocurrency kingpin and influencer Ben Armstrong, better known by his previous moniker, BitBoy Crypto, recently tasted the wrong side of freedom. Armstrong’s confinement lasted eight hours, his mugshot took a quick viral trip around the internet, and then he was released. Armstrong’s brush with the law seems attributed to charges of “loitering/prowling” and “simple assault by placing another in fear” carrying a bail amount of $2,600.
Caught in a precarious phase of life, Armstrong was reportedly en route to confront a former colleague when the police interrupted – a scene that was incidentally livestreamed on YouTube. The currency virtuoso is currently embroiled in a battle with a previous company, HitNetwork, from where he was abruptly shown the door. He has pointed fingers at the company for pulling off a coup against him.
Adding more spice to an already sensational tale, Armstrong had intentions to retrieve a Lamborghini from an individual called TJ Shedd, claiming that Shaw extracted the luxury vehicle under unjust circumstances. On reclaiming his freedom, Armstrong took to the micro-blogging site X and shared: “My name is Ben and I’m a loiterer. I did 8 whole hours in the slammer.” He went on to assure well-wishers he wasn’t on any narcotics but was merely high on adrenaline from confronting his alleged bully.
The incident has, creatively enough, been viewed in two different lenses. One side has seen the ‘crypto community’ entertain themselves with meme-worthy reactions to Armstrong’s arrest, sparked by his livestream fail and his extravagant attempt to take back his Lamborghini. This group found humor in the situation, with comments like Alex’s tweet, which portrayed Armstrong as recklessly extravagant and audacious, going viral.
On the other hand, Armstrong’s ordeal has had financial repercussions. Since the arrest, the Ben Armstrong-backed token, BEN, has taken a tumble of over 20%. The question that emerges now – will Armstrong’s recent misfortunate and his very public fight against allege bullies shake his followers’ faith, or will this only help him solidify his position, making him the cryptocurrency Robin Hood, fighting off his own set of Sheriff of Nottinghams? Only time and the volatile crypto market can tell.
