Space10, an independent design studio backed by Swedish furniture giant IKEA, collaborated with Swiss designers Panter&Tourron to create the modular sofa, which is currently on display at the Copenhagen Architecture Festival.
This groundbreaking AI project set out to create a foldable sofa that can easily be packed into an envelope-like container. By incorporating the concept of a “conversation pit,” the machine learning algorithm adjusted its designs to include people facing each other on the sofa, resulting in a unique and functional design. The Space10 and Panter&Tourron teams aim to improve the sustainability of furniture with tool-less and screw-less designs, making them easy to assemble and disassemble. Transporting furniture in a folded state also reduces energy consumption and simplifies the entire process.
