Gamers have long been skeptical of NFTs and tokens in video games, as concerns over market speculation, price fluctuations, scams, and profit-driven publishers have given the world of Web3 a somewhat negative image. This poses a challenge for indie game developers, well-known publishers, and content creators within the crypto sphere. To overcome this, Darren Glover, VP of Gaming at VaynerSports, suggests that Web3 content creators should focus on existing social platforms, such as TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels, and avoid delving too deep into the complex world of Web3.

Glover also advises staying away from tokens and refraining from using jargon and complicated NFT terminology. This will prevent the audience from losing interest and help maintain their engagement. He points out that the current sentiment around NFTs is not particularly positive; content creators should strive to be “entertaining, trustworthy, and informative” first before expanding into the Web3 niche.

The gaming industry offers ample opportunities for content creators to find appealing games to engage viewers, but the path to success can be quite challenging. Glover notes that there is a general lack of understanding around the profession and that it can take years for creators to amass a steady following.

Decentralized streaming platforms may present an alternative solution for content creators dissatisfied with centralized platforms like Twitch. After Twitch’s earlier announcement that it would disable creators’ ability to embed sponsorship logos and banner offers on their streams, the platform faced a backlash from the community and quickly overturned the decision. Glover sees this situation as an opportunity for decentralized platforms to thrive if they can refine their narrative and shift away from using crypto jargon.

Moreover, he points out that relying on centralized platforms like Twitch carries risks, as they could potentially go out of business and end the creators’ livelihood. Decentralized, blockchain-based streaming platforms, on the other hand, provide creators with greater control over their communities as they can take these communities off-chain if needed.

Glover concludes that the issue for decentralized platforms isn’t necessarily the product itself, but rather their marketing and narrative. By focusing on communicating the product more effectively and emphasizing efficiency, these platforms may have a better chance at capturing the interest of the gaming audience.
