Japanese video game creator, Bandai Namco, makes waves in the world of blockchain, launching AI-powered virtual pet game RYUZO. Developed in partnership with Japanese startup Attructure, the game takes a modern twist on Bandai Namco’s classic Tamagotchi, featuring digital creatures referred to as RYU on the eco-conscious gaming blockchain network, the Oasys Network.
Graphically, these pets aren’t just pixels. One fascinating component of RYUZO involves the transformation of each creature or RYU into a Soulbound token post-hatching. This procedure safeguards non-duplication and bans unauthorized transfers or sales, introducing an engaging layer of gameplay. Unlike conventional virtual pets, the application invites users to breed multiple generations of these interactive pets, contributing to a dynamic gaming experience.
Woven into the fabric of RYUZO is the concept of Soulbound Tokens (SBTs). The philosophy of a fully decentralized society, penned by Vitalik Buterin in a white paper, foresaw the use of “Soulbound Tokens”. Something which Oasys has intently adopted.
Soulbound tokens function to authenticate an array of personal data, transcend finance, medical records, education, and more. These tokens offer permanency, non-transferability and, importantly, reside exclusively within a private blockchain wallet. To its merit, this could essentially deter scams and theft, prevalent issues within the decentralized finance sphere.
Interestingly, the potential of SBTs extends beyond security measures, they could evolve a vital clog in the wheel of trust-building within the Web3 community. This shift in perspective offers a fascinating approach to assess an individual’s trustworthiness, leading to better-informed decisions regarding project support.
Oasys Network’s partnership with Bandai Namco is part of their bigger plan to team up with high-profile game projects and roll out more NFT releases. The company has already allied with gaming behemoths such as Sega, Square Enix, Ubisoft, and Bandai Namco, consolidating a firm gaming-centric validator network. This marks a significant stride in blockchain and gaming integration.
Stepping beyond gaming, Bandai Namco is actively expanding its footprint in Web3 and metaverse spaces. The company intends to invest over $130 million in the metaverse project centered around iconic “Gundam” anime franchise. As reported by Nikkei Asia, the project looks set to release in October.
As gaming behemoths continue to adopt blockchain and expand into the metaverse, the lines between virtual and physical worlds blur further. Time will tell whether this innovative melding of realities will be a resounding success or just another technological evolution. For now, enthusiasts watch with bated breath as an exciting new chapter in gaming, blockchain, and metaverse unfolds.
