In what’s billed as a flurry of innovation from the house of Animoca Brands and its subsidiary, nWay, a high-octane Web3 mech fighting adventure titled “Wreck League” is set to launch. Notably, this new NFT-based game will seamlessly weave four of Yuga Labs’ collections into the game’s epic storyline.
Intriguingly, Wreck League will enable players to concoct mechs—gigantic robotic characters—using collectible NFT components, thereby yielding a staggering “1.5 quadrillion” permutations. The starting point for each player: minting a mech NFT, which is a conglomerate of 10 mech parts found in boxes sold to an exclusive list of individuals known as the Wreck League allowlist.
Simultaneously, one compelling aspect of Wreck League is its accessibility. While the Web3 incarnation of the game necessitates having a mech NFT and an Ethereum-compatible wallet and is expected to host high-stakes tournaments, the team at nWay also assures a free-to-play Web2 version of the game. Remarkably, this non-blockchain version will be accessible across a plethora of platforms, including iOS. Plus, it proposes that players may buy non-NFT replicas of mechs formulated on the blockchain.
Echelons of nWay and Animoca Brands have also established a licensing pact with Yuga Labs, which was integral to embedding a quartet of its collections— Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Bored Ape Kennel Club, and Otherside Kodas—into the game’s storyline.
Taehoon Kim, the frontman at nWay, telegraphed to CoinDesk that although players won’t spar as Bored Apes, famed characters from Yuga Lab’s canonical universe, such as Curtis, Jimmy, Gary, and Blue will form an integral part of the game’s lore. This strategy underscores a blueprint that infers a “non-canonical extended Yugaverse.”
The breakout of Wreck League carves up a thrilling opportunity for players who aspire to contend for on-chain valuables, which fall under the spectrum of mech parts and booster boxes flaunting varying degrees of rarity.
Meanwhile, Animoca Brands, which keeps its pulse on multiple instrumental blockchain games via its subsidiaries, continually resonates across the Web3 landscape. Likewise, Yuga Labs has been expanding its footprint into gaming, recently appointed Spencer Tucker as the chief gaming officer, and unveiled a spate of mini-games to enrich its ecosystem. The firm also accentuated its focus on Otherside by announcing its intent to procure Roar Studios, a company known for its metaverse-specific gaming expertise.
